Apple iPod Mini
Introduction

The Apple iPod Mini is the microdrive-based digital audio player. Following on the success of the Apple iPod hard disk-based player, Apple went on and developed a player that used the 4GB MicroDrive. The result is the iPod Mini, a slim, sleek, minimalist player. And taking a step away from the standard white of the iPods, Apple decided to give some colour to the iPod Mini, and came up with silver, gold, green, pink and blue. Even before the iPod Mini was released, there was already the Creative MuVo2, with capacities of 1.5GB, and then 4GB. However, the MuVo2 lacked the X factor that made the iPod Mini famous. Sure, it was small, being only 2.6" x 2.6", a full 1" shorter than the iPod Mini's 3.6" x 2.0". But the two-line LCD display made it a pain to look for songs. And the tiny navigation button was probably made for a child. Little wonder, then, that the iPod just blew the competition away. Plus, the iPod Mini was everything that the iPod was, with a few improvements.

The iPod Mini came after the 3G (third generation) iPod, and the biggest difference was the introduction of the Click Wheel, which was subsequently incorporated into the 4G iPod. The Click Wheel is basically a touch wheel that works as a physical button as well, removing the need for the four buttons found on 3G iPods, giving the iPod Mini a cleaner look. Apple also included a USB cable for PC users (previously, the USB cable was available as an optional accessory).
