Creative Zen 20GB Review

Navigation System

The Zen uses the same operating system as the Zen Micro.

Selecting "Music Library" lets you browse your music by Playlists, Albums, Artist, Genres, All Tracks, Recordings, Bookmarks or the DJ mode. The DJ mode is the same as the Zen Micro's, with the Album of the Day, Random Play All, Most Popular and Rarely Heard. This DJ mode is especially useful on the Zen 20GB since with 20GB of music, you might be at a loss as to what you want to listen to.

Choosing a track to play will queue the whole album by default (see the "1 of 20")

"Play Mode" offers the same modes as the Zen Micro as well as other players.

The FM Radio in the Zen 20GB also allows saving to presets. Quality of the radio is so-so, but definitely better than the Zen Micro's.

"Extras" are the same as the Zen Micro, with "Date & Time", Microphone, Organizer and Removable Disk.

Even the sound level monitoring is still present.

The Removable Disk can be set to 16GB.

The "System" menu.

The 5-band custom EQ.

"Player Settings" menu.

And "Configure Menu" which lets you customise the main menu.

Essentially, there is nothing new in terms of the Zen 20GB software. Creative came up with a really neat software for the Zen Micro, and reused it for the Zen 20GB.

Here's a comparison of the Zen 20GB and Zen Touch display.

They both have the same resolution, although the Zen Touch has a physically bigger screen.
